About Halloween.my

Every Halloween event, rated on the Fear Scale — so you know exactly what you are walking into.

October is short, and nothing wastes it like the wrong Halloween night out — the scare maze that turns your twelve-year-old away at the gate, or the “terrifying” attraction that turns out to be a pumpkin trail.

The Fear Scale

So we rate every event we list on a five-level Fear Scale, from Flicker (lanterns and atmosphere, any age) to Nightmare (the big scream parks, built for adults). Alongside it we publish the venue’s own age policy — and whether they merely recommend it or enforce it at the door. The Fright Finder puts the two together: tell it how brave you are and who is coming, and it shows you what fits.

Why a turnip?

Because before the pumpkin, there was the turnip. The first jack-o’-lanterns were carved from turnips, swedes and mangelwurzels in Ireland, Scotland and the West Country, and some villages still do it. Our lantern is purple on top because real turnips are. Halloween is older and stranger than the version on the supermarket shelf, and we write about that too.

Where we cover

Each country gets its own area — the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada — because a great night out in Yorkshire is no use to somebody in Ontario. You can switch country at any time.

How we make money

Some of the shop and ticket links are affiliate links. If you buy through one we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. It pays for the hosting and it never changes what we list or how we rank it.

Something wrong?

Dates move, venues close, prices go up. If you spot something out of date, or you run an event you would like listed, send it over.
